When starting out in the creation zone, you might be tempted to post anything and everything.
Spoiler alert: this kills your engagement.
Livi Pilkington at MHI Media advises you “Niche down. Targeting everyone at once is a costly mistake. Instead, target an ideal audience with specific messaging.
A niche is your overarching top tier. When looking at content pillars, it’s better to localise and separate them into 3-4 themes or “buckets”. This will be unique to each creator. So think about what you want to be known for, how to be authentic and how this will best serve your audience. Then plan posts and ideas under these themes.
For example, if your niche is fitness, your subtopics could be motivation, workout ideas, quick recipes and gym tips.

Not only does this help you when planning content, but you’ll stay on track and become known as an expert in your field.
Fitness influencer and online coach, Lois Banks, says:
“In the past I’ve definitely posted for the sake of posting. Thinking “oh no, I’ve got to do my 6 days this week…” and it would be throw-away content. Now, I prefer to stick to my niche, my content pillars and making sure content I put out gives value.”
To find your passion, you have to play. Then you can tweak it to improve.
